In a recent announcement by The Coca-Cola Company, the company is extending the timeframe for improving water security in high-risk locations, reducing packaging waste, and decreasing emissions to 2035.

“We remain committed to building long-term business resilience and earning our social license to operate through our evolved voluntary environmental goals,” said Bea Perez, Executive Vice President and Global Chief Communications, Sustainability & Strategic Partnerships Officer at The Coca‑Cola Company, in a recent press release. “These challenges are complex and require us to drive more effective and efficient resource allocation and work collaboratively with partners to deliver lasting positive impact.”

The new goals, which replace previous environmental targets, include:

  • Water: Returning 100% of the water used in high-risk locations back to nature and communities.
  • Packaging: Using 35–40% recycled materials in bottles and cans and collecting 70–75% of packaging introduced to the market annually.
  • Emissions: Reducing Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions in line with a 1.5°C target.

Additionally, the company will step back from its agricultural goal, but will continue collaborating with suppliers and stakeholders on sustainable sourcing to reduce water usage, cut emissions, prevent deforestation, and protect vulnerable areas in the supply chain.

Coca-Cola will continue to publish annual updates on its sustainability progress, adjusting strategies based on market conditions, new insights, and stakeholder expectations to ensure alignment with its 2035 goals.
