Ellis Coffee and the Philadelphia Zoo have partnered to launch Jambi’s Java, a Rainforest Alliance Certified, single-origin Sumatran coffee supporting the Zoo’s newest Sumatran orangutan baby, Jambi.

Ellis Coffee is proud to announce an exciting partnership with the Philadelphia Zoo to launch Jambi’s Java, a Rainforest Alliance Certified, single-origin Sumatran coffee with a mission.

Named after Jambi, the Zoo’s newest Sumatran orangutan baby, this coffee celebrates a milestone moment — the first successful orangutan birth at the Philadelphia Zoo in 15 years. This special-edition coffee not only offers a bold, rich taste but also directly supports the Zoo’s ongoing conservation efforts. A portion of every sale goes directly to the Philadelphia Zoo, helping to care for Jambi, his family, and supporting global initiatives to protect endangered species.

A Combined Philadelphia Legacy of Over 270 Years

With a shared Philadelphia legacy spanning 270 years, it’s only fitting that Ellis Coffee and the Philadelphia Zoo join forces to support a cause that benefits both the local community and global conservation.

Founded in 1854, Ellis Coffee has been a cornerstone of Philadelphia’s coffee culture for 170 years, crafting artisan roasted coffee for generations. Likewise, the Philadelphia Zoo, established in 1874 as America’s first zoo, has been a leader in wildlife conservation and education for 150 years.

Now, these two historic organizations are coming together to make a meaningful impact — one bag of java at a time.

A Coffee That Gives Back

Jambi’s Java is a medium-dark roast, single-origin Sumatran coffee, known for its bold, earthy notes with hints of dark chocolate and spice. Artisan roasted in small batches by Ellis Coffee’s master roasters, Jambi’s Java captures the essence of Sumatra’s lush rainforests in every sip.

Beyond its exceptional flavor, Jambi’s Java is Rainforest Alliance Certified, ensuring that its beans are sustainably sourced, supports responsible farming practices, and protects both people and the planet.

“Through Jambi’s Java, we’re proud to support the Philadelphia Zoo’s vital conservation work,” said Adam Kestenbaum, President of Ellis Coffee, in a recent press release. “This collaboration allows coffee lovers to enjoy an exotic, sustainably sourced, single-origin coffee while directly contributing to the care of Jambi and the preservation of critically endangered species at the Philadelphia Zoo.”
