Trimble® has announced that Performance Food Group Company (PFG), one of North America’s largest food and foodservice distributors, has selected Trimble as its premier fleet management provider. This partnership will double the number of trucks equipped with Trimble’s in-cab technology from 4,000 to over 8,000, covering 100% of PFG’s fleet.

PFG’s vehicles, spanning its Performance Foodservice, Core-Mark, and Vistar business segments, will now feature Trimble Instinct, an advanced in-cab ecosystem designed to improve safety, compliance, and efficiency by seamlessly connecting drivers with back-office teams.

“As a large distributor focused on growth, we need a single fleet management system to support our expanding fleet,” said Len Lamkin, vice president of transportation at PFG, in a recent press release. “Trimble was a great choice to satisfy our needs. With Trimble, all our vehicles will be in sync on the same platform, allowing us to better manage the thousands of drivers and vehicles we have on the road.”

PFG’s decision to switch its entire fleet to Trimble comes after years of managing separate fleet systems across its sectors, which complicated communication and workflows between drivers and back-office personnel. Trimble’s integrated technology offered a comprehensive solution, providing Electronic Logging Device (ELD) data and compatibility with PFG’s in-house and third-party tools.

“PFG has been a valued customer of Trimble for more than two decades. We are pleased to continue to provide them with superior technology and service,” said Paul Cardosi, VP of telematics & fleet management at Trimble. “Working closely with PFG, we’ve streamlined their workflow, and business needs to create a more nimble and connected transportation experience.”

Why This Matters for Refreshment Operators

  • Faster Deliveries: PFG’s adoption of Trimble’s fleet management system could improve delivery route efficiency and schedules, which means fewer disruptions and fresher products for customers.
  • Improved Safety and Communication: Consolidating fleet systems strengthens communication between drivers and back-office staff. Consolidating fleet systems boosts coordination between drivers and back-office teams. Meanwhile, Trimble’s in-cab ecosystem improves safety compliance, helping prevent delays and ensuring consistent stock replenishment.

Refreshment operators should monitor the results of PFG’s fleet migration as a potential trendsetter for fleet management and logistics optimization in the food and beverage industry. Partnering with companies who proactively pursue quality fleet control could offer operators a competitive edge.
