The
Amusement And Music Owners Association of New York, Inc., has announced that
its annual dinner gala, to be held on Monday, February 27th, 6-9
PM, will be a “Tribute to Music”.
According to AMOA-NY President Ken Goldberg (Emerson Amusement Co.,
Woodside, New York), “We are departing from our traditional format where an
individual industry leader is honored.
On February 27th we want to recognize two content providers,
Rowe/AMI Entertainment (www.roweinternational.com)
(Bristol, Pennsylvania) and Ecast, Inc., (www.ecastinc.com)
(San Francisco, California) both of which represent vital economic development
for operators throughout the greater New York metro region, and throughout the
nation.”
Rowe/AMI
Entertainment, a leader in digital jukebox technology is celebrating over 100
years of making places “come alive”.
The company began as a maker of player pianos. Automatic Music Instruments---is still a leader in
the modern coin-op industry.
Rowe/AMI offers some of the most advanced technology and content
services for present-day digital touchscreen jukeboxes. Taking on the name AMI Entertainment,
Inc., in 2002, it administers a network capable of delivering an unlimited
amount of music (today more than 750,000 selections and growing) to a vast
number of jukeboxes connected worldwide to the Internet.
For
over ten years, Ecast has been a leader and innovator in the digital jukebox
market. Ecast brings next-generation jukebox hardware and software to market,
to help operators manage and grow their businesses within the constantly
evolving marketplace. An early pioneer, Ecast built the first 100%-hosted,
broadband jukebox network which today delivers sophisticated digital music
solutions to 10,000 venues. Ecast
was the first company to offer Single Song Download functionality, wireless
deployment options, large screen form factor jukeboxes and the first to
integrate social media. The Ecast platform has the ability to deliver 1B
interactive ads each month and currently serves 6M social media
impressions.
Ken Goldberg explains that, “Both companies have made a
significant investment with AMOA-NY to become partners in our efforts to
combat illegal jukeboxes, copyright violations, and music piracy---all of
which deny operators income and put operators at an unfair disadvantage.”
AMOA-NY Executive Director Danny Frank expresses: “Both Rowe/AMI and Ecast, Inc. have
demonstrated that they are committed to relationships with are supportive of
operators and ‘selling direct’ practices are against their
policies.”
Goldberg continues:
“Our February 27th ‘tribute to music’ sends a message about
how operators and content providers must be united and strong in challenging
any forces which seek to undermine what is a valuable, proud economic engine
going FORWARD the next 100 years.”
The cost of tickets, tables, and Souvenir Journal
advertising will be the same for the third straight year. Reservations can be made by
contacting: 212-279-1041 or e-Mailing: DFRANKPRODUCTION@AOL.COM The event will be
held at The Douglaston Manor (www.thedouglastonmanor.com) at 6320 Commonwealth Boulevard, Douglaston, New York
(718-224-8787)
AMOA-NY
is a tax-exempt trade organization founded in the 1940’s which represents the

NEW GAMES FROM LAI CREATE A BUZZ AT IAAPA
Dallas, TX, December 6, 2011 – Brand new games from LAI made a huge splash at the IAAPA Expo in Orlando. At a show that, according to operators, was light on new game offerings, LAI introduced five innovative new products, including Speed of Light and Balloon Buster.
Speed of Light, a ticket redemption game that tests player’s speed and reflexes, received accolades from operators, distributors, and players alike. Steve Veach, National Games Manager at Brunswick Bowling said, “Speed of Light is an interactive redemption game that can be enjoyed by all ages. The unique cabinet draws people to it.”

Speed of Light drew crowds of watchers as players made repeated attempts to beat their previous scores. LAI sponsored a competition challenging players to beat a posted score in order to win an Amazon gift card. Dozens of players attempted to win, but only two successfully beat the posted score, including fellow exhibitor and high-wire daredevil Nik Wallenda. The units from the show will be installed in Dallas-based Main Event locations. Availability: January 2012.
LAI’s newest prize merchandiser, Balloon Buster, also made a splash at the show. David Settles of Brady Distributing hailed the game as “a great merchandiser with a new twist. It appeals to the kid in all of us.” This carnival themed game features prizes suspended by balloons. Players must guide a pin through a hole and pop a balloon via a patent-pending mechanism to win one of five available prizes. Availability: January 2012.
In addition to Speed of Light and Balloon Buster, LAI displayed three other new games: Rainy Days water game for youngsters, Pirate Battle ball toss game, and the wall-mounted Stacker Wall Street. Complete information about all of LAI’s new games can be found at www.LAIGames.com.

Every Region Posts Better October Sales Compared to 2010
Every region posted sales increases in October, with the South
leading the charge with an impressive 10.9% boost, according to the
latest AmericanCoinOp.com StatShot survey. Nearly all of the
Southern operators who provided data reported enjoying double-digit
gains for the month compared to October 2010.
Self-service laundry sales were up 4.8% in the Northeast, 4.4% in the Midwest and 1.7% in the West.
One Southern operator reports that wildfires burned 1,500 houses in
their area, which could account for increased patronage. Another says
October sales were up 10% primarily due to increasing wash prices.
A Western operator says business is “a little slow, but improving,”
while another beams about having had “our best month in 15 years.”
“Sales vary with gasoline prices,” a Midwestern operator says. “Higher
gas prices equal lower sales, and vice versa.” Another blamed lengthy
road construction projects for hurting business.
In the Northeast, one operator had already surpassed 2010 sales with
two months to go. Another complained about stores being built too close
together. “Competition hurts us all when they build new stores close to
the existing ones. New stores should be built in new neighborhoods where
there are no other Laundromats.”
Operators were also asked to compare current dryer prices to October
2010 prices. In cases where operators have multiple prices, they were to
list the lowest price.
In 2010, dryer prices in the South were 36.6 cents for an average of
7.9 minutes, with times ranging from 5 to 20 minutes. The average price
has increased to 38 cents but for a longer average of 9 minutes.
Midwestern dryer prices have increased slightly. October 2011 prices
averaged 32.5 cents for 8.2 minutes compared to 31.2 cents for 8.5
minutes in October 2010. Drying times range from 3 to 30 minutes.
Western prices (25 cents for an average of 7.6 minutes) and
Northeastern prices (26 cents for an average of 7.6 minutes) are
basically unchanged from October 2010. Drying times in the Northeast
range from 5 to 10 minutes; they are 6 to 10 minutes in the West.
AmericanCoinOp.com’s StatShot includes information on sales,
wages, costs and other financial data based on anonymous survey
information provided by industry owners and operators.
Audience members are invited to participate in these unscientific
surveys, which are conducted online via a partner website. All
self-service laundry operators are encouraged to participate, as a
greater number of responses will help to better define industry trends.

LAI
SET TO UNVEIL NEW GAMES AT IAAPA
Dallas,
TX, November 1, 2011 - LAI
Games is set to unveil six new games in booth #1034 at the IAAPA Expo
this month. Three never-before-seen redemption pieces will be shown:
Speed of Light, Pirate Battle, and Rainy Days. In addition, LAI will
debut three new prize merchandisers: Balloon Buster, Stacker Wall
Street, and Drop Zone.

Speed
of Light
Speed
of Light puts players’ speed and reflexes to the test. This
redemption game features an attention-grabbing light matrix where
players are challenged to press lit buttons to earn points. Upbeat
music and lighting effects create a fast and frantic atmosphere, and
the 8ft high open lattice and backlit platform make this a great
centerpiece for any location. Operators can choose from various
scoring and bonus options to customize the game for their locations.
At
IAAPA, LAI will sponsor a Speed of Light competition. The player to
rack up the most points during the show will win a $100 Amazon.com
gift card. Visit booth #1034 to take the challenge!
Pirate
Battle
Pirate
Battle is a new ball toss redemption game with a pirate theme that
will appeal to young children. Vibrant lighting and sound effects
combine with pirate themed voices to create swashbuckling fun. Game
play and scoring are simple, with different point values for small
and large targets. The game ends with a five second frenzy where
players can get double points. Operator adjustable settings include
game duration, points or tickets option, and ticket payouts.
In
addition to Pirate Battle, LAI has two other ball toss games in their
new lineup. Princess Castle is a redemption piece created especially
for little girls, with a pink and purple castle-themed cabinet and
sound effects. Choo Choo Train is a railroad themed ball toss game.
All three new ball tosses can be banked to create an appealing
presentation for both boys and girls.
Rainy
Days
This
ticket redemption game brings wet and wild excitement to youngsters.
Rainy Days is a water game that challenges players to catch raindrops
from thunder clouds to earn tickets. Realistic thunder and lightning
sound and light effects add to the excitement. The game requires no
plumbing – the water is auto-recycled and filtered. The game ends
with a bonus round where the water flow is higher and points are
doubled.
Balloon
Buster
LAI’s
newest prize merchandiser is Balloon Buster, a carnival themed game
where prizes are suspended by balloons. Players must guide a pin
through a hole and pop a balloon to win one of five available
prizes. Simple, quick game play encourages repeat attempts. Carnival
themed graphics and voice messages add to the fun. Operators can
choose from global or individual prize adjustment settings.
Stacker
Wall Street
Stacker
Wall Street is a unique, wall-mounted Stacker game ideal for
locations where space is at a premium such as bars, clubs, hotel
lobbies, etc. The LED playfield is surrounded by four secure prize
compartments with auto-locking doors. The stylish steel and tempered
glass cabinet, engaging lighting and sound effects, and appealing
Stacker game play make Stacker Wall Street a profitable way to
utilize wall space.
Drop
Zone
LAI
has another great addition to its prize merchandising lineup with
Drop Zone. An LED playfield sets the stage for simple but inviting
game play that has players attempting to catch a stack of falling
blocks between a pair of “catcher” blocks. It works very much
like the children’s game of trying to catch a falling ruler between
your hands. As play continues, the blocks fall faster and the
catchers get smaller. Players who reach the Minor Prize level can
choose to accept an inexpensive prize or try for a Major Prize. The
cabinet is made of durable steel and features dynamic graphics and
lighting effects. An optional, “Win Every Time” cabinet dispenser
is available.

Coinco’s
Arrow Cashless System Introduction Impresses Attendees at the
Canadian Automatic Merchandising Association (CAMA) Expo 2011 in
Montreal.
Baltimore,
MD - On
September 16 and 17, at Montreal’s Place Bonaventure, industry
professionals gathered for CAMA Expo 2011, a showcase of the newest
and most innovative products, equipment, technology and service aids
available on the market. CAMA Expo is the only trade show in Canada
combining vending and office coffee services.
Coinco’s
Arrow Cashless and Telemetry Products met an enthusiastic crowd in
the CAMA Café where various manufacturers’ machines were equipped
with Arrow Connect and the Arrow Smart Reader. Attendees were given a
contactless card (flash) preloaded with $10 credit for use in the
Café. Traffic was impressive as attendees flocked to the machines to
redeem their credits.
Chris
Stegehuis, Coinco’s Canadian General Manager, said, “Visitors to
our booths were very impressed with the Arrow System. They
commented on the attractiveness of the Arrow SmartReader and the easy
to use Arrow Vision Route Management software. We are very
pleased with the enthusiastic level of response and the orders placed
on the show floor.”
Coinco
VP Sales, Ron Manne, commented, “It was gratifying to see that the
CAMA Café was the busiest place on the show floor. It was clear
that the Café Card was simple to use with the Arrow SmartReader.
It was gratifying to see how easily attendees figured out how to use
the system and how quickly vends occurred with Arrow.”
The
Arrow System is one of the mostly widely used cashless systems for
vending in the world, with over 25,000 units installed worldwide and
more transactions processed on a global basis than any other vending
or cashless system. Arrow Vision provides detailed reports on
product sales, cash accountability, pre-kitting with dynamic
scheduling. Coinco also presented a French version of Arrow
Vision.
Arrow
is the trademarked name for Coinco/InOne Technology’s cashless and
telemetry system. The Arrow SmartReader accepts magnetic card,
contactless (flash) and contact card. The SmartReader is
designed to meet EMV standards, and is in the final phases of the
approval process.
Gene
Ostendorf, founder of InOne Technology said, “Clearly, the
Canadian vending market is poised to explode with cashless payment.
The new regulations from Interac easing payment for low value
transactions, and the forthcoming mass mailing of Bank cards equipped
with flash (contactless) and contact will fuel the
explosion. Coinco’s dominant position as payment solutions
provider to Canadian market and Arrow’s dominance as global
provider of cashless payment make it the obvious choice for Canadian
operators.”
Coinco
is a world leader in the design and manufacturing of payment
solutions for the automated point-of-sale industry. In Europe,
Australia, Asia, North America or Latin America, Coinco makes
products that deliver consistent, reliable performance in vending,
amusement, kiosk, gaming, retail or transit.

Jungle Rapids Family Fun Park Sees “Tremendous Increase” in
Attendance and Revenue with New Gen6 Supernova Laser Tag System
Since
initially investing and then later purchasing the Jungle Rapids
Family Fun Park in 1990, Robert (Bob) Rippy has done what many
successful entrepreneurs hope to do - invest and grow a successful
business. Starting in the 80’s Bob oversaw many successful
additions to the park; from mini-golf to go-karts, a climbing wall,
laser tag and much more. As part of a major expansion in the 90’s,
Bob added an outdoor water park, which features a million gallon wave
pool, kids area, slides, and a ‘Super Bowl’ that flows into a
lazy river. Bob is continually looking for new ways to keep the
guests coming so he can not only meet the financial demands of
covering the operating costs, but can exceed the breakeven point that
allows the facility to turn a profit.
As
the 2011 summer season was getting ready to kick-off, Bob completed
his newest facility upgrade – a redesigned 2,800 sq. ft. laser tag
arena. Their ten year-old arena was in need of a face-lift and
upgraded equipment. Doug Bryant, Jungle Rapids General Manager, told
us that Bob had discovered and fell in love with the Laserforce laser
tag system while attending a conference in Australia earlier in the
year. “But it wasn’t until we brought the system into the park
for testing and put it side-by-side against our current system that
Bob knew this was exactly what we needed,” said Bryant. “He
couldn’t believe the difference until he saw it from across the
room with his own eyes.”
Laserforce
was immediately hired to upgrade their system and arena, which
included new lighting throughout, provided by Steve Strickland of
Nexus Group South, and installation of the new state of the art ‘Gen6
Supernova’ laser tag system. The new equipment now allows for team
play as well as individual play. Players can seek cover in the bases
or tag their opponents one at a time from elevated towers while they
navigate through the smoky passage ways of the black lit arena.
“Since opening to the public on May 20th, the park has seen a
tremendous increase in play,” notes Bryant. “Both revenue and
attendance has increased significantly and we are seeing new faces as
well as guests playing multiple times.”
Jungle
Rapids Family Fun Park is located in Wilmington, NC and offers hours
of fun-filled excitement for the entire family. For more information
about the park, visit their website at
www.junglerapids.com.
Laserforce
has been developing, manufacturing, and supplying laser tag equipment
since 1987 and is one of the most trusted names in the laser tag
industry. In 2010, Laserforce opened 27 sites across Australia, Asia,
America and Europe. For more information about Laserforce or the Gen6
Supernova system, visit their website at www.laserforcetag.com

Games has created a new prize capsule dispensing version of Mega
Stacker for locations without ticket redemption.
LAI
Games has responded to the strong demand from operators that want the
great revenue earning power of Mega Stacker but don’t have a
redemption counter. Unlike the original version of the game, which
features major prizes vended from cabinets and tickets vended for the
minor prizes, the new version replaces tickets with prize capsules
(either 2” or 3”).
With
both options now available Mega Stacker is suitable for a much wide
range of entertainment locations. With earnings of over $3,000 a week
and a $2 or $3 vend price Mega Stacker is proving to be a huge
success.
About
the new Prize Capsule version of Mega Stacker
Mega
Stacker combines both major prize merchandisers and a minor prize
capsule dispenser into a single unit. Players reaching the Minor
Prize level of the game receive a prize capsule, while those who
reach the Major Prize level get to choose a prize from one of five
lighted window compartments. Extensive operator-selectable settings,
including prize payout, enable operators to maximize profits at many
different major prize price points.
At
over 8 feet wide and nearly 10 feet tall, Mega Stacker creates a
striking presence and is the ideal centre piece for large game rooms.
The mega-size LED playfield, dynamic cabinet lighting and

Vending Industry Launches Vend.Love.Win.
Facebook Contest, Calling on Gen Y Consumers to Share Their Vending
Favorites New Research Shows Gen Y Prefers Vending Over
Other Retail Options
CHICAGO, Aug. 2, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Vending machines have long been
one of the antidotes to snack attacks everywhere. To celebrate America's love of
vending, the National Automatic Merchandising Association (NAMA) today launched
the Vend.Love.Win. Facebook contest (www.facebook.com/VendLoveWin).
The nationwide, eight-month contest invites fans to post creative photos or
videos of their favorite vending machines or vended products for a chance to win
prizes. Beginning today, 20 Facebook users per month can win $200 for
themselves or a charity of their choice, and be eligible for a $5,000 grand
prize. "This contest is going to help me communicate with my younger customers in a
way that's meaningful to them," said Chuck Olson, owner of CNC Vending, LLC in
Houston. "They're online, so that's where I want to be, too." Tom Reynolds, Vice President, Foodservice at PepsiCo, added, "We know
consumers – especially young adults – crave opportunities to express themselves
and they enjoy engaging in these types of interactive contests. The vending
industry is eager to provide the tools for consumers to convey what they like
and want in vending."
Also at the Vend.Love.Win. Facebook contest, entrants and voters are
encouraged to check out the "Vend This" and "Vend Here" tabs. These two tabs
allow consumers to provide direct feedback to the vending industry about
additional products they want to see in machines, plus new and different places
where they would like to see vending machines located. Vend.Love.Win. is the beginning of a larger campaign designed to boost
awareness and generate excitement among consumers about the vending experience.
The program is geared largely to Gen Y consumers (ages 18-29) due to recent NAMA
research indicating that Gen Y prefers vending over convenience stores and
grocery or drug stores. Over the next several months, additional initiatives
aimed at Gen Y will be revealed, including special events, giveaways, other
social media efforts, new consumer technologies, and more. NAMA conducted comprehensive industry and consumer research to provide a
foundation for this broad industry growth strategy. The study found that four
out of five consumers view vending favorably. In addition, Gen Y consumers
showed strong interest in technological advancements and innovation in vending,
such as touch-screen interfaces and cashless payment options.
"There's a lot of buzz and change in the vending industry right now, and this
program is one way to share that excitement with consumers," said Dan Mathews,
NAMA Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer. "Based on the data
our research revealed, and the exchange of ideas we are having with consumers
and our industry, we believe the future of vending is very, very exciting."
For more information about the Vend.Love.Win. Facebook contest, visit
www.facebook.com/VendLoveWin.

Common sense vending
management
A new YouTube presentation of the vending-UK, vending machine
management system, is now available on http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6coZ8U-lTAA
This presentation shows how the vending-UK system works,
using handheld PDA and windows mobile phone devices , or by using totally free
of charge paper forms. The presentation shows how the system eliminates theft by
reconciling products placed in the machine with money collected in the cash box.
An introduction is also given to some powerful reports that are output by the
system. Vending-UK outputs Audit Trail and Stock Transactions to Sage accounting
software to automate your office work. Invoices for product sold and machine
rental are automatically generated, as well as custom reports from your vending
data. Vending-UK organises your operators by estimating the quantity of product
needed at each machine, so that they can carry the right amount of stock from
the van to the machine. Putting the right amount of stock cuts waste and
improves cash flow by not overstocking your machines.
Vending-UK is low cost. The licence fee is just 145 UK pounds
for each handheld device and totally free if you use the paper forms approach.

November 28th, 2010 - Vending Design Works LTD is relocating and setting up shop in the city of Winnipeg and a new website is being launched to showcase their vending and dispensing systems. The website, http://vendingdesignworks.com, will share information and resources related to finding wall mounted wood encased vending and dispensing machines.
“I have been a vending machine manufacturer for over 20 years,” said the owner of Vending Design Works. “We have been frustrated by web designers in the past, who were unable to meet deadlines, and who charged more than they quoted, by holding my website hostage. When I visited http://winnipegwebsitebuilders.com and spoke with the owner, I felt confident that I would have a market dominating website”.
The site will feature a new design that fits the page in any sized monitor and allows viewers to increase the size of the text to make it easy to read. This site easy to use and navigate for visitors searching for wall mounted cigarette and snack vending machines.
The owner of the site also pointed out that a new article will be coming online soon that discusses the benefits of installing wall mounted vending in clubs, restaurants and bars. “Rumors and myths about cigarette vending regulations has been floating around for years, and so hopefully this article will help shed some true light on this topic.”
He mentioned that some of the myths people have are related to the tough new public smoking restrictions in place today. These concerns and more will be covered in the new article to be posted soon.
Further details on finding wall mounted vending and dispensing machines can be found online at http://vendingdesignworks.com.

Tip to Mainstreet:
If You Don’t Have a Tax Strategy in Place, You Could be Wasting Money.
Manhattan, NY (PR newswire) October 28, 2008 –With all of the commotion focused on the possible upcoming tax consequences of the current administration, it seems many are missing the bigger picture and that is--that small business owners are already hurting.
With the financial markets in turmoil and a pervading sense of gloom being disposed on radio airways, news briefs and blogs, small business owners are looking for answers in an economy which is slowly chipping away at their profits; and the answers are coming from the most unlikely source—tax deductions.
The Tax Club, a small business advisory firm that has instructed over 20,000 small business owners on the importance of having a customized tax plan is now offering its expertise for free in an effort to show business owners how to benefit from the current tax code irregardless of who gains control of the oval office.
While consumer spending is down and revenues on average are declining it is important for business owners to utilize every advantage they can to hedge against loss. With a tax plan that is crafted specifically toward their business, entrepreneurs can legally use the tax code to keep more of the money they work so hard to make. As the economy tightens, this strategy can literally mean thousands of dollars in found revenue.
From medical reimbursement plans to real estate strategies, knowing how to utilize the tax code in your favor is a must for upstarts and veterans alike in today’s unknown economy. Everyday millions of business owners make decisions that greatly impact their bottom line. Sadly enough, those decisions are often made without any thought of the tax implications involved.
With free tax help offered daily from their pool of small business advisors, The Tax Club is reducing fear and creating confidence in the marketplace. Regardless of the products or services they sell, small business owners can benefit from the knowledge these free sessions offer. With the industry motto of “constant contact”, The Tax Club is redefining the relationship between accountants and business owners—the more dialogue, the better.

News ANNOUNCEMENT: New Vending Machines for Pet Supplies! DogToys.com Inc., a West Chester, Pa.,-based pet product distributor, and Charitable Vending Management Inc., of Des Moines, Iowa, have launched a pet supply vending machine program. The joint venture offers individuals the opportunity to use vending machines to raise money for charities. Through the program, individuals can purchase a vending machine package, which costs $5,300 and includes a vending machine built by Charitable Vending Management, initial stock of pet supplies from DogToys.com, a warranty and technical support. The vending machines will be available for purchase at www.vending4pets.com and pet supplies will be available for purchase at www.petvending.com. Both websites are expected to launch within the next two weeks. Program participants are encouraged to donate 10 percent of the proceeds to a charity of their choice. The vending machine will be customized to display a decal designating the benefiting charity. DogToys.com and Charitable Vending Management are marketing the program to their existing customer base as well as animal welfare organizations and anyone with an entrepreneurial spirit. “There’s just an endless number of places to position these things,” said Jill Gizzio, owner of DogToys.com Inc. Charitable Vending Management sales manager Bill Fankell added that the program can help pet store owners expand their business and brand name. “They can use the machine as a billboard and, at the same time, expand their sales,” he said. This marks the first time Charitable Vending Management, which is a division of The Wittern Group, is offering a pet supply vending machine, according to Fankell.Vending4Pets.
The decision to team up with DogToys.com to introduce a pet supply vending machine makes good business sense, he said, because there are few pet vending machines on the market, compared to soda and snack machines, and the potential profits are greater. “More profit can be generated because the price of a pet item can be up to $10 and still be acceptable,” he explained. “There’s more money to be made, which means more money to donate to the (charity), and there’s less competition.” The program is also a nod to Charitable Vending Management’s roots; the division was launched as a way to raise money for animal shelters. Get one placed FREE in your company or organization! or add this pet vending machine to your current vending route...
